Communication

Verbal and Non-Verbal

Written

Through written documents. Events or notes that are being written down on paper or documented on the computer. Written documents are used when working with youth and families. You will have to document what is happening in every situation. You have to make it professional and strength-based. Avoid judgement and slang. Include anything positive that happened with the youth as well, as this shows progress.

Technology

Using the computer and internet. Using technology to communicate is more impersonal and does not allow the CYC Practitioner to form a close relationship with others in the field, or with families. Because it is over the internet, you must keep in mind the clients privacy. At my work, we never use any ones full name, we instead use initials for youth and staff. Technology can be used for emergency help, or to share important documents with other professionals.

Professional Networking and Community

Professional Networking is branching yourself out to others and different companies. Spreading your name around so people know who you are. Community involves forming relationships with different community members. This sub-domain can also include; having a safe and healthy work environment, building relationships with co-workers, and getting advice from others in your field, and sharing your personal expertise with others in the field. â€‹â€‹Your interactions with other professionals is mainly focused on business, rather than non-business conversation.

To communicate by talking, listening, and interacting with others. Communicating can come from talking, but also through your actions. Communication is the way you interact with others and the way you portray yourself. It can be the way you sit, act, and speak when you are with another person.

There are two ways to communicate with others. That is through verbal and non-verbal communication. Verbal communication is physically talking to someone. Non-verbal communication is performed through actions, for example; shrugging, nodding your head, eye rolling, and smiling.
