Relationships
Forming relationships with the youth in your care. To go beyond the individual file, and get to know the clients you are working with as a person. Having empathy for the youth and families you are working with. Creating a bond with each other. Forming these relationships can last a lifetime, and not only impact the youth in a positive way but also yourself.
Caring
Caring for others is an important part of being a CYC Practitioner. Caring for the youths emotional growth and physical health, and developing a social relationship with them. Getting the youth to feel like they are worth your time and energy, and showing them that they are loved.
Engagement
As a CYC Practitioner, you will develop therapeutic relationships with the clients. To engage, means to be meaningful involved in the relationship. You can be involved with the youth by doing activities together, allowing them to be involved in activity planning, or decision making.
Use of Activities
Having fun with the youth, and teaching them games. Being energetic, and having the motivation to get up and do something with the youth in your care.
Teamwork
Success working in a team setting requires the CYC Practitioner to build relationships with the youth and their families, as well as a relationship with the other staff in your workplace.
Professional Relationships
Working with other professionals in the community, various organizations, and co-workers. Knowing what is available to you and the youth in times of need. Having professional relationships with other workers in the field, so that you can discuss situations with them and get advice. Respecting the advice they have for you, and keeping all options on the table, in respect for everyone involved.
