Systems

Looking at the systems surrounding and affecting the youth's life. This is shown through the family history, cultural environment, and community. You will also see where the youth surrounds themselves, in areas like school, church, etc. In the concept of systems, you will learn small things will work together, in order to help a bigger aspect of the youth's life work properly and efficiently.

Systems Theory

Understanding 'Systems Theory' as an important framework for practice. 'Systems Theory' shows the relationship between the youth, families, and community, and describes how all of these groups work together. 

Ecological Perspective

Being familiar with the ecological perspective that shows the interaction between the youth and their physical and social environments. This is including cultural and political settings. It understands how institutional systems such as the health system, child welfare, and the education system can help, or stop the growth and development of the youth. Understanding how everything in the world works, and how one motion can lead to another.

Family Systems

Knowing who is apart of the youth's family unit, and who they see as their family. Looking at the family’s values. Making sure that the cultural values and beliefs are valued by the youth, and everyone apart of their life. 

Legal Guidelines and Practice

The laws and guidelines in place are understood and applied in everyday practice in the CYC work field. Dealing with the Child and Family Services Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Mental Health Acts.
