Self

I believe "self" is knowing how and what makes you different than everyone else. It is knowing who you are as a person and knowing what you are capable of providing to the world and the people around you. The competency of "self" is knowing what traits and aspects of yourself you have to offer, and the things in life that matter to you. "Self" is also about going through your personal life experiences and learning to use those past experiences to better your future.

Self-Care

Taking care of yourself and partaking in activities that lower your stress. These kind of activities could be; taking time for yourself, exercising, quality time with your friends or family, or reading a book. Taking care of your physical and emotional well-being is important in "self-care". It is important to treat yourself sometimes. "Self-care" is also knowing your personal triggers, and taking care of the tasks you need to, so your workload does not pile up, as this could lead to added stress and burnout.

Reflective Practice

Reflective Practice is reflecting on your professional and personal experiences. It will help you recognize how your emotions, feelings, and attitude guide your interaction with the youth in your care.

Boundaries

Having personal boundaries that someone creates with others. Having guidelines or limits that separate one from others. Makes the person feel more safe and secure in the relationship.

Use of Self in Interventions

Making sure that you are in balance with yourself, and with your personal values and beliefs. Being present in the moment, and being in the youths life-space with them, shows that you are all in this together.
