Professionalism

To be professional, is to act respectfully to others, keep a clean and respectful appearance, and presence in the workplace. A professional presence can be shown through your determination and positive attitude. Your actions can reflect your professionalism and show clients/supervisors that you are serious about your job, and you are in the workplace because you love it. 

Ethics

Using the ethically correct decision in the circumstance. As a Child and Youth Care Practitioner, you will need to make ethical decisions in any kind of scenario. These decisions could very well go against your own beliefs and values, but you will need to remember that this decision is not your own, it is what is best for the youth in your care. 

Professional Development

Knowing and learning new strategies for the workplace, and growing as a person as well. Improving yourself through education, training, or mentoring. Taking opportunities when they become available to do extra training and education. 

Supervision

You are usually supervised by someone with more knowledge and/or power in the company than you. Accepting feedback while being supervised is important. When being a supervisor, you should provide a safe space for the group of professionals by supporting, educating, and monitoring them in the workplace. â€‹

Diversity

Respecting and accepting all different types of people, including; race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, etc. To accept everyone for who they are and what they have to offer. People come from many different walks of life, so to acknowledge and accept that fact. To also understand and identify how oppression can affect and impact others in various ways.
